This Month in History
- 1889 – Nellie Bly challenged Jules Verne’s, “Around the World in 80 days.” Ultimately, traveling around the world in 72 days.
- 1906 – Theodore Roosevelt became the first U.S. President to visit other countries – visiting Puerto Rico and Panama.
- 1926 – U.S. Route 66 was established.
- 1934 – At 31 years of old, Lou Gehrig of the NY Yankees won the Triple Crown.

In 1938 – Kate Smith introduced Irwin Berlin’s (revised) classic, “God Bless America.” The song was considered by many an anthem of hope and quickly became an American standard.
- 1983 – President Ronald Reagan signed bill H.R. 3706 creating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as a federal holiday.
- 2013 – Sony launched Playstation 4 (PS4) – selling 1 million units within 24 hours.
- 2021 – At 105 years old (😊or young), Julia Hawkins set a record at the Louisiana Senior Games achieving 100-meters in 1:02:95.
Thanksgiving Day

In December 1941, the fourth Thursday in November was established as Thanksgiving Day when Congress decided to create a fixed date for the holiday. The resolution was signed by President Roosevelt.
