December birthdays are special. It’s a great way to reflect on personal milestones while enjoying time with family and friends. Events in History

In the 300s, during the reign of Roman Emperor Constantine I, the month of December was chosen to celebrate Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ.

In 1914, an incredible moment of peace occurred. During WWI, opposing troops paused from war to sing Christmas hymns. This phenomenon is known as the Christmas Truce.

In 1968, Apollo 8 became a most memorable mission – as it was the first time Earth was seen from the moon’s perspective. During their live broadcast astronauts read from the Book of Genesis.

In 1972, during the final Apollo mission, the crew took a beautiful photo of Earth, dubbed as the “Blue Marble.”

In 2017, astronauts at the International Space Station went viral as they held the first pizza party in space.
Supermoon Sighting

On December 4, 2025, the full moon, named Cold Moon, will occur. Its name comes from this time of year which is considered the start of the coldest months for the Northern Hemisphere. The full Cold Moon will appear brighter and larger than a regular full moon because of its close proximity to the Earth in its orbit. Peak illumination with be around 6:14 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Upcoming Meteor Shower
Beginning December 13, 2025, you can see the Geminid meteor shower. Expect a moonless sky with up to 100 meteors per hour.
Peak showers will be after midnight, into early morning December 14, 2025, and can be best viewed in a dark location far from city lights.

In December, you can enjoy beautiful light displays. Lights galore, some up to 1 million, can be seen across the U.S. at botanical gardens.
