The story of St. Patrick

St. Patrick’s Day is a day celebrated around the world. Some observe the day in different ways but the story behind the saint is quite remarkable.

When Patrick was a teenager, he was kidnapped from his home and forced into slavery. He was taken from Britain and brought to Ireland where he tended livestock. After around six years, he escaped and was reunited with his family.

He went back to Ireland during the 5th century to evangelize the Christian faith. Patrick became a beloved saint, a bishop, and founded churches, schools, and more. His annual day of celebration began in 1631.

Celebrating March Birthdays

Birthdays in March are special because depending on where you live it can be a time when seasons change, and nature seems to wake with color.

Chicago

If you want to combine your birthday festivities with St. Patrick’s Day Chicago has a big downtown parade and day cruises to see the green dye of the Chicago River. These events usually occur the Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day. Watch floats, Irish step dancers, and more. The parade typically begins at 12:00 pm. The river day cruises normally occur on the same day, between 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.
